Western North America air quality forecasts

These simulations cover most area west of the Continental Divide in North America encompassing the U.S. western states (Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Oregon, California, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, Utah, New Mexico), British Columbia, Alberta,and Saskatchewan. The area covers 6.7 million sq km. This region has large forested areas that, in the last years, have caused massive wildfires affecting areas as far south as California. The 2024 wildfire season has had an early start with the Edmonton metropolitan area seeing very large PM2.5 concentrations in the first half of May as shown in the left animation.
