VM launch

Once the image is available from the Azure Marketplace, launching a VM proceeds similarly to any Linux OS. In the launch screen:

  • Select your subscription
  • Name the VM (e.g. runningWRF)
  • Select the region (some VM types are only available in selected regions)
  • Select the available image (in a similar fashion to how a base OS is selected)
  • Select Azure Spot if you wish to use this type (check eviction rate for more information about the likelihood of the VM being terminated)
  • Select the size for the new VM
  • Choose a SSH connection to log in on the VM

  • Create a new keypair or use an existing one (we recommend the latter option to streamline launching VMs with the image)
  • The inbound port should be set to SSH(22)
  • Select ‘Other’ as License type
